Why Home Office Space is on the “Must-Have” List More Than Ever

Gone are the days of opening your laptop on the kitchen table and setting up shop during naptime to knock out a few quick work tasks. These days, buyers are looking for a designated space within their home to use as an office in hopes of keeping their tables clean and their sanity intact.

With the continuing evolution of work-from-home positions, the percentage of people needing a dedicated room is growing significantly every day. Ask anyone working from home and they’ll agree that having a space away from the hustle and bustle of the household is a must for productivity.

Home offices should be called out in listings to ensure telecommuting buyers all of their needs are being met. Whether its large windows bringing in tons of natural light or built-in bookshelves or a secluded loft away from the main living space, highlighting a desirable feature for this growing need is worth mentioning.

Creating a home office can be as easy as staging to show buyers the potential of a room. Living in a post-COVID-19 world, the remote working community will continue to increase as both companies and employees develop plans to work-from-home and realize that it’s a feasible option long term. As a result, housing options have to adapt and address the demand for homes with offices or a dedicated workspace. Pointing out a large kitchen island will no longer be a remedy when entire careers are being launched from the home.

As more and more people are working remotely, and actively looking for jobs that can meet that desire, having a home that does the same is imperative. Years ago, this would be a surprising and rare addition to the must-have list many buyers come with, but given the current climate of the workforce, having a home office is just as important as updated bathrooms and master suites.

With businesses all over the country discovering options to successfully operate virtually, the housing market must pivot as well. Working from home has seen a significant increase in the last few months both in employers adjusting policies and in unemployed searches for new jobs. Remote work is quickly becoming the new norm. Having a home office is more desirable than ever before and can be a huge selling point for buyers and, in turn, an even bigger reward for sellers.
